The Covid-19 coronavirus is becoming an accelerator for one of the greatest workplace transformations of our lifetime. It has disrupted organizations and the workplace environment and culture. Human resources leaders have to adjust their roles as they adapt to social distancing practices and a new work environment.

What We Are Seeing with HR Professionals Today?

According to a recent survey of more than 2,200 human resource professionals, SHRM sheds a light onto just how significantly employers and workers have been impacted by the coronavirus. 40% of employers have had to shut down certain aspects of their businesses, while 83% have adjusted their business practices. In addition, 71% of employers said they are struggling to adjust to remote work, while 65% said that maintaining employee morale has been a challenge.

The human resources profession is on the front line of helping organizations to adapt and respond to the coronavirus crisis. HR is a critical business function that helps companies’ success in hiring employees, keeping them engaged, and supporting their growth and development. Hiring and managing talent is the most essential thing that a company can do to ensure long-term growth and stability.

Firsthand we have seen HR leaders implement new remote work policies and virtual onboarding and hiring practices. They also continue to provide employee support. By consistently communicating with their employees, they ensure that their teams are all fully informed of their new plans.

No one could have predicted this new level of expectation being placed under the HR department due to COVID. Crisis response has now become the number one top priority for HR. Crisis management is the process by which an organization deals with a disruptive and unexpected event that threatens to harm the organization or its stakeholders. Failure to handle crisis properly can result in losses for an organization.
